USJP partners with KRMG Capital to Establish the First-Ever Blockchain Laboratory in Sri Lanka

University of Sri Jayawardenepura (USJP) is proud to announce the university’s latest partnership with KRMG Capital to establish the first-ever Blockchain Laboratory in Sri Lanka. The Blockchain initiative is to take place in 2018. The partnership was sealed during a meeting held at the Vice Chancellor’s office on the 12th of December 2017. Dr. Chandima Jeewandara of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr. Chandimal Alahakoon of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Dr. Prasad Jayaweera of Faculty of Applied Sciences and a few delegates from America was present at the meeting.

Blockchain Labs is known as the ‘Technology that changes rules’. University of Sri Jayawardenepura in keeping with time and evolving with the changes in the scope of technology has embraced the Blockhain laboratory initiative with open arms.

“Through our interactions with the Vice Chancellor, we were able to see the strategic and innovative vision that he envisions for the university in the coming years. USJP is in the mist of experiencing significant expansion thanks to the passion, hard work and dedication clearly exemplified by the leadership team and faculties. We’re pleased to assist USJP in becoming a globally recognized technology hub,” Mr. Manju Nishshanka, Founder & General Partner,KRMG Capital disclosed upon the conclusion of the meeting.

With Blockchain’s emergence as the next biggest global technology disruptor, it will affect various sectors and revolutionize the way humans conduct businesses, govern institutions and utilize information.  KRMG capital further stated that they were excited to work hand-in-hand with USJP and its faculties of Medical Sciences and Applied Sciences to develop a Blockchain Lab that will foster research & development, entrepreneurship, and ultimately develop commercially viable startups/businesses.

It was further mentioned that global corporations and Silicon Valley technology firms are strategizing and preparing for major market shifts that will occur due to Blockchain technology. As a result, the brightest minds around the world are currently investing their intellectual and financial capital into this technology. This partnership will enable USJP to become the first-ever university to pioneer Blockchain technology in Sri Lanka.

“Our long-term goal is to build a collaborative lab that will help students develop cutting edge technology skills, build successful careers all while creating new Blockchain applications, platforms and protocols that will change the world. Right now is an exciting time in human history and we are thrilled to work with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in the coming years,” Mr. Nishnanka said.
