The AHEAD Operation of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, invites applications from
interested parties for Consultancy on Curriculum Development, under the ELTA/ELSE Faculty Grant(FHSS).
Background
Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) will focus on expanding, diversifying and developing the higher education sector in Sri Lanka to drive economic growth through knowledge-based industrial and service sector activity as well as on producing graduates of global quality. The AHEAD program will have the three results areas; Enriching Learning, Teaching, Assessment and English Language Skills Enhancement (ELTA-ELSE) DP, aims at improving the quality of higher education and has two main components: (a) academic and socio-emotional skills development[1] and (b) enhancement of English language skills. There is also a global trend towards promoting the integration of academic excellence and enhanced socio-emotional skills among university students, so that they are well prepared for the world of work, and for wider social and civic life upon graduation. The ELTA component of the DP seeks to address this issue through the meaningful integration of socio-emotional skills and innovative teaching and assessment methods into the academic programs of the Faculty of Humanities and social sciences.
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) intends to revise its existing curricula. The need for a revision is informed by the analysis of the systematic and unstructured feedback and comments received about the curricular from (i) the employability survey and the baseline survey on socio-emotional skills (SES), (ii) the self-scrutiny of the syllabi, teaching and assessment methods, (iii) stakeholders’ comments on SJP graduates, (iv) policy and regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC), and (v) suggestions made by the Programme Review-2017.
The AHEAD ELTA/ELSE Project will be implemented over the period of three years and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks the selection and employment of a Curriculum Development Consultant for period of six months.
Assignment Objective
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is now considering the selection of a professional and qualified expert consultant who will assess the current curriculum of the 22 degree programmes offered by the 15 departments of the Faculty. The consultant will also provide a new program curriculum map that is responsive to the need of the local and regional job market and private sector, and aims at upgrading the skills of the students and qualifying them to meet the needs of the job market, thus, increasing the graduates’ chances of employment.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
The curriculum development consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Review and revise the current curriculum plans for the Humanities and Social Sciences degree programmes with practical courses, including courses, teaching & assessment methodologies, practical training, and internship.
- Review similar curriculum of similar programs at one reputable regional or international universities in the Local, Asian and the world.
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current curriculum based on the mentioned above reviews and revisions.
- Update the current Humanities and Social Sciences degree programmes plan by incorporating the observations made.
- Present a new curriculum plan to the Project Technical Committee.
- Provide Technical Assistance to conduct drafting of Curriculum Framework:
Working with curriculum revision committee, lead the writing of draft curriculum framework;
Under the guidance of AHEAD curriculum committee, conduct a workshop to present draft framework to Academic members;
incorporate feedback into draft framework;
With the AHEAD curriculum committee, finalize curriculum framework.
Deliverables
- Report on analysis of current Curriculum Framework
- Final comprehensive report which documents all conducted activities, including stakeholder survey reports, methodologies, implemented activities, findings, recommendations, local job market needs and proposed actions.
- Submission of the draft and final copies of curriculum framework in hard and soft versions
Essential Required Qualifications:
- At least PhD from an accredited university in Education or Curriculum Development
- At least three (3) years of experience in development, assessment and evaluation of curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment methods;
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in university teaching.
- Excellent communication and networking skills.
- Excellent reporting and formal writing skills in both English and Sinhala
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills;
- Strong analytical and presentation skills
Payments and payments conditions
The schedule of the payments is specified below.
- Total allocation for the consultancy is LKR 900,000.00
- 10% of the total value will be paid after signing the contract
- 20% of the total value will be paid after submission of the report on analysis of current Curriculum Framework within a month after signing the contract.
- 20% of the total value will be paid after submission of the final comprehensive report which documents all conducted activities, including stakeholder survey reports, methodologies, implemented activities, findings, recommendations, local job market needs and proposed actions within Three months after signing the contract.
- 50% of the total value will be paid after submission of the draft and final version of curriculum framework in hard and soft versions within Five months after signing the contract.
