UNITY 2016, the Sports day of the Faculty of Technology was was held on the 29th of December 2016 at the Maharagama Central College Sports ground. Lecturers, staff and 320 students of the Faculty of Technology were present on this day. It encouraged new technology undergraduate students to develop friendships with one another.
A sports day was incorporated into the Orientation programme to give the first intake of Technology students an opportunity to get to know each other, to plan and organize an event, to build team work and unity as well as to promote a fun-filled day of sports and out-door activities. The event was organised by a group of students who volunteered to be the organising committee with the fullest support of all other students and the guidance of the lecturers.
The event commenced at 9.30 am with the arrival of the staff of the Faculty, followed by the University Anthem. Prof. P.B. Mandawala, Dean of the Faculty addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of team work and leadership.
UNITY 2016 was a success in developing friendships among students from different parts of the country, different cultures and backgrounds. Everyone took part in various games as teams, cheered, and laughed leaving behind all differences. The event concluded around 3.30 p.m.
