Pasidu Hirushan, a first-year student of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce was severely injured due to an accident that took place at University premises. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the the Proctor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura visited the student who underwent serious surgery who has regained consciousness and is responsive.
The University has taken an administrative decision to make sure the student will get the best treatment in the world either in Sri Lanka or abroad. The expenses will completely be borne by the University. A special Deans committee meeting was held today (10.03.2020) where all Deans of the University, the Registrar and the Proctors office gathered to discuss the ongoing investigation.
On the information provided by the University, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon and the Police Investigation Team have already commenced investigation for identification of the persons who were associated with the incident. Accordingly, in the near future the students who were involved in this incident will be taken into custody.
If the investigation proves that the incident occurred due to a deliberate malicious intent the University will take necessary action to punish the perpetrators and bring justice to the student.
Till then we will do everything in our power to help the recovery of the student. We stand in solidarity with him, wishing him a speedy recovery.
