After the exhilarating win of the Inter University Championship Games by Japura sports stars, several of the winners spoke about their total experience at the games. In the nearly five decade history of the championships, this is the first time the University of Sri Jayawardenepura has won the entire championship, and its excitement was quite evident not only in players but also in the entire university.
When it comes to university level games, the year 2015 has been productive for Japura. Players agreed unanimously that the win is based on these previous successes and the support from the university administration. With proper back up from all corners concerned, their commitment for this year’s championship was at its highest. Even with tight course schedules, they opted to leave them aside for a while to concentrate on the games. They expect this to be a perfect foundation for next year’s SLUG Championship.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor Prof.Sampath Amaratunge, stated that from the beginning of 2015, a constructive plan was introduced to improve the quality and efficiency of Japura sports. From proper coaching, nutrient supply, to good management, there are many attributes that contribute to the win. In fact this success is a collective effort of players, the physical education unit, the sports advisory board and the management, faculty deans, lecturers and non-academic staff. Prof,Amaratunge added his thanks to all parties involved and hoped it would be a good moral boost for SLUG 2016.
