Vidyodaya Literary Award Ceremony 2020 which was organized by the Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was held on 2nd of September 2020 at Sumangala reading hall. This is the first and exclusive literary awards ceremony conducted by a Sri Lankan university.
This award ceremony was graced by Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge; Chairman of University Grants Commission, Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage; Vice-Chancellor of USJ, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda; Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, scholars, academic members, and the nonacademic members participated in this event.
This year Vidyodaya Literary Awards were disseminated among the following authors representing these literary categories.
Best poetry collection

Best short story collection
“Wishramika Pemwathiya” – Mr. Erik Ilayaparachchi
Best novel
“Petha” – Mr. Erik Ilayaparachchi
Best Newspaper article collections
“Kolamba Katha” – Mr. Anurasiri Hettige, “Yasayage Wakkiya” – Mr. Yasawardana Rodrigo
This evening was brightened by the songs of Dr. Dayarathna Ranathunga, Mr. Janaka Wickramasinghe, Mrs. Pradeepa Dharmadasa and Mr. Pradeep Muthukudarachchi.
