Badminton teams of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura won the inter university championship 2022 in both women and men categories on 13th of November 2022 at the University of Kelaniya new indoor sports complex.
USJ Women’s Badminton team advanced to the finals by winning the battle between University of Sabaragamuwa women’s team in the semifinals. USJ Women’s Badminton team won the championship by defeating University of Colombo Women’s Badminton team. The USJ women’s team also won all three singles under women’s category in this tournament.
The Men’s Badminton team of USJ advanced to the finals by defeating the University of Moratuwa Men’s team in the semifinals by winning all three singles matches against the University of Moratuwa Men’s team. University of Kelaniya men’s team, who happened to be the host of the tournament advanced to the finals by defeating University of Colombo men’s team. In the finals, USJ Men’s team were able to defeat University of Kelaniya Men’s team by winning 2 of 3 single matches against the UOK Men’s team. The USJ Men’s team was able to secure the championship by winning the doubles by 3 to 1.
With those winning games, University of Sri Jayewardenepura Men’s and Women’s teams concluded the winning of overall badminton championship in the Inter University Badminton Championship 2022.
