“Sanifly” an innovative project carried out by a team of USJ undergraduates following the Business Information Systems (Special) Degree offered by Department of Information Technology (DIT), Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, won the merit award under the Smart Settlements & Urbanisation Category at e-Swabhimani, Digital Social Impact Awards 2021.
The awards ceremony which was delayed from the originally planned dates in 2022 was held on 7th March 2023 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. In addition to their recognition in the Smart Settlements & Urbanisation category, the team also received certificates of achievement as one of the outstanding young innovators of the competition.
e-Swabhimani is organized by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka, Ministry of Technology. The talented project team consisted of Mr. Pramuk Hewawasam, Ms. Ishara Thennakoon, Mr. Dinuka Wijesundara and Ms. Nipuni Fernando, and is supervised by Prof. Lasith Gunawardena from the Department of Information Technology. The Sanifly platform consisted of a mobile app which is used as a washroom tracker and also contains an IoT sensorKit and a cloud-based monitoring platform aimed at cleaning companies. The project which was funded by a USJ Innovation Grant in 2021 has already won in several local and international competitions previously.
