The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) has emerged as the overall champion of the Inter University Championship 2024, amassing an impressive 478.5 points. This marks the fifth time USJ has claimed the championship, adding to its victories in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2022. The university secured both the Men’s overall championship with 250.0 points and the Women’s overall championship with 228.5 points, solidifying its dominance in university sports.
The Inter University Championship 2024, organized by the Sri Lanka University Sports Association (SLUSA) with financial support from the University Grants Commission (UGC), featured the participation of over 16 state universities competing in 24 sports disciplines. The event commenced with the Rugby Championship on August 25, 2024, and concluded on December 15, 2024.
USJ’s consistent excellence in university sports is further highlighted by its previous achievements. The university has won the Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) championship for three consecutive times in 2016, 2019, and 2023, demonstrating a sustained commitment to sports excellence.
