The University of Sri Jayewardenepura has achieved the position of the second-best university in Sri Lanka in the QS World University Rankings 2025. This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to academic excellence and research.
This achievement not only marks USJ as the joint second-highest-ranked university in Sri Lanka but also highlights our dramatic improvement from being unranked in 2024.
The rankings, released on June 4, 2024, feature three Sri Lankan universities. Alongside USJ, the University of Peradeniya also ranks in the 1201-1400 band, while the University of Colombo (UoC) leads the pack, ranking in the 951-1000 band. This is a moment of pride for Sri Lankan higher education, with three of our institutions now recognized on this global platform, up from just one last year.
USJ’s debut and rapid rise in these rankings are particularly noteworthy. Our jump from being unranked to joining the world’s top universities clearly indicates our enhanced educational standards, impactful research output, and growing international reputation.
The administration, faculty, and students of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura can take pride in this achievement, as it marks a significant milestone in the university’s journey towards academic and research prominence.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all three ranked Sri Lankan universities. Together, we are elevating Sri Lankan higher education on the world stage. To our USJ community – this is your victory. Your hard work, passion, and pursuit of excellence have brought us this far. Let’s continue this journey, pushing boundaries and setting new academic standards.
