The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) Alumni Association hosted a memorable tribute night at the BMICH on May 4th, honoring the timeless melodies of H.R. Jothipala and the enchanting compositions of Rohana Weerasinghe. The event, titled “Ninda Neena Rathriye,” showcased a fusion of Sinhala and Hindi songs performed by talented vocalists including Uddika, Bimal, Surendra, Uresha, Mario, Umali, Amila, Thanura, and Suneth.
Dignitaries gracing the occasion included USJ Vice Chancellor Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, UGC Chairman, Prof. Sampath Amarathunga, former USJ Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, and Prof. Sunil Ariyarathne, Chancellor of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts. Mr. Kamal Gamini Silva, President of the Alumni Association, presided over the event.
The evening also witnessed generous contributions from alumni towards university initiatives, particularly the forthcoming Pradeepa Pranama awards honoring Japura alumni and staff. The event served as a poignant celebration of musical heritage and a testament to the enduring spirit of the USJ community.
