Two USJ Science Faculty Researchers Featured in Asian Scientist 100 for 2023

Two distinguished researchers from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) have been recognized in the 2023 edition of the prestigious Asian Scientist 100 list. This annual list, compiled by Asian Scientist Magazine, celebrates the achievements of Asia’s leading researchers across various scientific disciplines.

Dr. Samawansha Harsheni Tennakoon, a researcher from the Faculty of Applied Sciences at USJ, was honored for her work on plant-based treatments for cancer patients. Dr. Tennakoon was awarded the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) 2023 Early Career Fellowship for her research on investigating the chemical and biological properties of traditional Sri Lankan cancer treatments.

Dr. Imalka Munaweera, also from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, was recognized for her contributions to the field of chemistry. She received the 2023 TWAS-Atta-ur-Rahman Award in Chemistry for her work in developing engineered inorganic nanostructures and nanofiber composites. These innovations have potential applications in multiple fields, showcasing her impact on scientific advancement.
