Two academics from the Science Faculty of University of Sri Jayewardenepura are among the global top 2% list for the single-year impact for 2017 and 2019. Prof. Meththika Vithanage is listed in the top 2% list in 2017 and 2019, whereas Dr. Anushka Rajapaksha is listed in the 2019 single-year impact. Prof. Meththika Vithanage is a Professor in Natural Resources under the Office of the Dean/Faculty of Applied Sciences as Dr. Anushka is a member of the Instrument Center staff, FAS, USJ.
Based on the two separate data tables for career-long and single-year impact, 15 Sri Lankan scientists are among the global top 2% in each category in 2019.
A collaborative effort of a few researchers from Stanford University, USA, Elsevier B.V. and Sci Tech Strategies Inc have developed a publicly available data-base of 100,000 top scientists based on standardized citation metrics.
Various limitations in the existing ranking systems encouraged the scientists to develop the citation ranking of this nature, which are listed in the two publications in PLOS One journal in 2019 and 2020 (Loannidis et al 2019; 2020). This citation metric provides standardized information on citations, h-index, coauthorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator. Further, separate data are provided for career-long and single-year impact.
