In commemoration of the opening of the first Technology Faculty of Sri Lanka, a commemorative stamp named, “Sri Lanka’s Flagship Faculty of Technology – University of Sri Jayewardenepura” was launched by the Department of Posts, Sri Lanka on 08th June 2020. The 41mm x 30mm dimensioned stamp displays the full aerial view of the Faculty and symbolizes one of the glorious moments of the history of University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
In honour of this special day, the first day cover of the stamp was also ceremoniously handed over to the Honourable Prime Minister by the Minister of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation at the opening ceremony of the New Faculty Complex, Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. This day marks another milestone achieved by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura keeping the vision of the University at heart.
Vidyodaya University established by the most Venerable Welivitiye Sri Soratha Thero in 1959 was the first University in the country to provide vernacular education (Sinhala/Tamil). This opened the doors for those who were now leaving schools having gained vernacular education. Similarly, when the Technology stream was thus introduced to the Advanced Level curriculum in 2013; the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was the first to lay the foundation to create a Faculty that will facilitate students who complete their Advanced Level Examinations through the Technology Stream. The 20 acre new Faculty complex of the Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Mahenwatta, Pitipana built with an investment of Rs. 3.5 Billion will serve as the knowledge hub and a collaborative space for students and staff.
