Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage Assumes Duty as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura

 

Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage assumed duty as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura on 28th July 2023 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office. The event commenced with religious observances, where he sought blessings from the Noble Triple Gems. Distinguished guests, including Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, along with Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, academic members, administrative officials, and alumni members graced the ceremony.

Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage holds esteemed positions at the university, serving as the Professor of Zoology, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Co-chair of the Research Council, and Director of the Centre for Water Quality and Algae Research. His academic journey includes a BSc (Honours) Degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1992, an MSc from the Department of Life Conservation Science in 1998, and a PhD from the Department of Microbial Ecology and Eco-toxicology at Ehime University, Japan in 2001.

Internationally recognized for his expertise in eco-toxicology, water quality, bioremediation, and cyanotoxin research, Prof. Pathmalal has received several prestigious fellowships and holds honorary positions at Robert Gordon University, UK, and Sydney University, Australia. He has achieved numerous world-first records in his field, making significant contributions to the scientific community.

As the new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Pathmalal is poised to lead the University of Sri Jayewardenepura towards greater excellence, further advancing research and education in Sri Lanka and beyond.
