The Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura accomplished the student’s orientation program for the 2019/2020 batch from 17th to 19th of March 2021, amid the pandemic situation being the first management faculty to commence the new academic year. This program was virtually conducted over the zoom platform broadening the capacity of faculty toward online education.
The inauguration ceremony, the first event in the agenda was conducted with the participation of the Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Vice Chancellor of USJ, Prof. P.D. Nimal, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, and other members of the academic and non-academic staff of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, followed by a pragmatic session conducted by the senior academics of the faculty to make the undergraduates aware of the virtual learning environment.
Within the next two days, the undergraduates were engaged in a number of inspiring informative sessions conducted by senior academics of the faculty. In addition, Mr. Sriyan de Siva Wijeyeratne, a prominent faculty alumnus delivered a motivational speech to inspire the undergraduates to achieve the best in university life. Also, the supportive services and programms namely the student support services, student welfare facilities, student’s disciplinary procedure, sports and physical education opportunities, library facilities and student career guidance were introduced by the respective units to make undergraduates further familiarized with the setup.
Expanding the horizon of virtual environment related activities, we could successfully conclude the final day of the students’ orientation programme with a talent show and a cultural flare creating a platform for the new 2019/2020 batch to display their aesthetic talents with senior students and prominent Sri Lankan artists.
