The new building of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is to be named as “Sri Wimaladharma Mansion” honoring the past President of the University Most Venerable Palannoruwe Sri Sidhdhartha Wimaladharma Chief Thero, who served during 1963-1966 period.
Naming the new building as “Sri Wimaladharma Mansion” decision was approved from the Governing Body of the USJ on the 512th Governing Body meeting held on March 12, 2021 for Senate Proposal proposed on 390th Senate meeting held on January 27, 2021.
Prior to became the President of the University, Ven Palannoruwe Wimaladharma Thero worked as second vice chancellor for more than three decades in Vidhyodaya Pirivena, which converted to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura later while working as a lecturer in Vidhyodaya Pirivena.
Ven Palannoruwe Wimaladharma Thero was admitted to the shasana in 1913 and admitted to the Maligakande Vidyodaya Pirivena in 1916. Due to the excellent Ven Wimaladharma Thero revealed in the fields of Pali, Sanskrit, Sinhala and Buddhism he was awarded with “The Shyama Royal Award” from the Vidyodaya final examination and awarded The Royal Pandit degree with a first class in the graduation prior to joining as a lecture of the Vidyodaya Pirivena. With the experience and knowledge Most Ven Palannoruwe Wimaladharma Thero did a remarkable service to the USJ and Vidyodaya Pirivena during his time.
Opening ceremony of the “Sri Wimaladharma Mansion” will be held on December 16, 2022 Friday at 10.00AM at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
