Ms. Srimali Samarakoon, an undergraduate of Department of Sports Sciences, FAS, University of Sri Jayewardenepura won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Thursday (09/12/2021) while placing 9th in the World Championship. She competed in the women’s 45kg category. She is also the current record holder of the Sri Lanka record in the 48kg weight class category. Ms. Srimali won many recognizing awards throughout her weightlifting journey. It was not an overnight work but continuous effort, commitment and many sacrifices done within the past 10 years in her journey.
Ms. Srimali has today brought glory to Mahamaya Girls’ College Kandy, to University of Sri Jayewardenepura and as well as to the whole nation. USJ Congratulates Ms. Srimali Samarakoon and wishes her all the best for all her future endeavors.
