Kasun Ramanayake of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura will participate World University Weightlifting Championship from the 5th to 9th December 2014 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Kasun has proved himself to be worthy of this opportunity by winning many awards and medals in Sri Lankan weightlifting arena. He proved his worth again, during the Inter University Games 2014, by securing a gold medal in the 150 + kg weight category. His achievements are not only limited to weightlifting, he also won several awards for his performances in wrestling during the Sri Lankan University Games 2013.
Weightlifting is a fairly new addition to the World University Championships; it was entered into the programme in 2008, which welcomed over 150 weightlifters from 32 countries. . This time, the participation for the WUWC has increased with 198 countries sending their most valuable weightlifters to grab the gold medals, the competition has become stronger.
