As the traditions continue, the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce is in the process of preparing to welcome the new entrants in a ceremonial set up at the Inauguration on 30th October 2017. The Faculty being the largest and the leading Management Faculty in the country, attracts the students who have scored the highest marks under the Commerce stream in GCE A/L Examination. This year alone 1220 students are given this golden opportunity to enter this prestigious Faculty and to select a field of study offered by twelve different departments within the umbrella of Management.
The Inauguration ceremony will commence at 8.30 a.m. on 30th October 2017 at the Bandaranayake Hall, within the University premises. The ceremony will be headed by the Vice Chancellor and will also be graced by the Deans of Faculties, Heads of the Departments, the academic staff members of the Faculty and non- academic staff representatives. Its primary aim is to officially welcome the students to the university life, while giving their parents also a chance to get a glimpse of what the university life would be for their children in the coming years. The ceremony will be followed by a special motivational speech delivered by the renowned speaker Prof. Saman Chandra Ranasignhe on the theme; “The Art of Living”. Thereafter, students’ registration will commence and will continue till evening.
Subsequent to the inauguration day, a week long orientation programme will be held from 31st October to 4th November, and this time around special segments have been added on to the programme. One such segment is the University Field Visit, which aims to provide the new students with an opportunity to be familiar with different establishments and divisions of the university. Creative segments such as street dramas and role plays would also be incorporated to this field visit, in order to create a welcoming atmosphere for these newcomers. Apart from this, many other sessions such as leadership and personality development, Information Technology, study skills are planned to be organized for the benefit of the new students.
The organizing committee will be providing lunch throughout the orientation programme to the students and a snack in between the sessions.
