The new Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Prof.Hemanthi Ranasinghe assumed her duties with a vision sharing session, which was held at seminar room 1 of the FGS. The invitees of the event included Vice Chancellor Prof.Sampath Amaratunge, all faculty deans, academic and administrative staff, prominent academics from other universities and also special invitees from the industrial and government sectors.
Presenting her future schemes for the faculty, Prof.Hemanthi stressed the need to expand such a vital section as graduate studies to take the university further ahead in its ranking. As it is a faculty where all other faculties connect to, much should be done to its enhancement. The FGS expects to introduce new study programs and establishing a multidisciplinary research and education plan. Through this kind of courses, there is hope to attract foreign students to enroll at FGS of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, which will no doubt encourage more research engagement. Apart from upgrading the existing facilities, Prof.Hamanthi added that there is a plan of establishing a research and publication unit as well as a consulting unit to provide more pathways to researchers. In future the FGS will also organize workshop, forums and other events as such. Going along with the current trend, the faculty website is expected to furnish e-learning opportunities.
Prof.Hemanthi invited suggestions and collaborations from other academic, industrial and government institutions to further develop the faculty in the coming period.
