The foundation stone of the much awaited addition to the university, the Faculties of Technology and Engineering were laid by the Chancellor, Ven. Bellanvila Vimalarathana Thero and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge on the 22nd September 2016 at the Techno Park, Pitipana, Homagama.
This 7.5 billion worth new development which is a result of the determined persuasion of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Amarathunga and the university administration; was approved by the University Grant Commission and the publication of Gazette Extraordinary (No. 1948/59 Order under Section 27(1), THE UNIVERSITIES ACT, No. 16 of 1978) by the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways of Sri Lanka.
The faculties of Technology and Engineering are to commence activities temporally at Ratmalana with the new intake of 300 prospective candidates for the Faculty of Technology and 120 prospective candidates for the Faculty of Engineering.
The Faculty of Technology headed by Prof. Prashantha Mandawala will consist of three departments of study; namely, the Department of Engineering Technology, Department of Bio-Systems Technology and the Department of Information and Communication Technology. These departments will offer the following courses,
- Bachelor of Engineering Technology
- Bachelor of Bio-Systems Technology
- Bachelor of Information Communication Technology for the first time in Sri Lanka to initially cater 300 prospective undergraduates.
The faculty of Engineering on the other hand will consist of five departments of study; namely, The Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Computer Technology and the Department of Inter disciplinary studies all leading to the award of the degree of the ‘Bachelor of the Science of Engineering’. This Faculty will be under the led by Dr. S.A.A.M Subasinghe.
