Mr. W. K. H Wegapitiya, President of Alumni Association of University of Sri Jayewardenepura  has been honoured as “Sri Lankan of the Year – 2016” and he was paid tribute with a ceremony organized by Japura Alumni on Sep, 30, 2016  at University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, several Deans and Heads of the Departments, Professors and academic members  have taken part in this ceremony.

Mr. W. K. H. Wegapitiya, is the Founder and the Executive Chairman of Laugfs Holdings Limited; a diversified enterprise in SriLanka, engaged in variety of businesses including, Power and Energy (LPG, Petroleum, Lubricants, power generations), retail (Supermarkets), engineering and construction, environmental services (vehicle emission testing), leisure, property developments, shipping, value added manufacturing ( Industrial Tyres ) , and Chemicals.

He is personally instrumental in creating the business of “Laugfs”, in Sri Lanka from its humble beginnings, stayed on the painful track, out performing adversaries and finally made the vision a reality. He is a graduate form the prestigious Sri Jayewardenepura University in (B.Sc) Business Administration, and also a holder of MBA from the Post Graduate Institute of Management affiliated to the same university. Presently reading for PhD at the Post Graduate Institute of Management

His entrepreneurial achievements have been recognized locally and regionally whilst he became the Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010 and Asia Pacific Entrepreneur 2011. Past Chairman of the Chamber of Young Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE), Former Senior Vice president of FCCISL, member of the Executive council Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and National Pay Commission and Governing Council of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
