The launch of the two books, titled Pitfalls, rewards and reflections of a retired scientist and Weerasinghe land and other non fictional stories, authored by Vidya Jyothi Emeritus Professor E.R. Jansz was held on 20th March 2021 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardene.
At this occasion, Prof. Jansz was appreciated for his monumental contribution to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The chief guest, Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, Vice-Chancellors of the university, was the chief guest. “The best way to assess a scientist is not by measuring the individual achievements but by assessing the long term impact he has made. Department of biochemistry, being only the department in the university that produced two awardees of the vice-chancellor award for scientific publications is a testimony to his untiring efforts to build the academic capabilities of the university,” stated by Prof. Liyanage.
Senior Professor Aloka Pathirana, Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, has also commended his services particularly, for his efforts during the formative years of the faculty by shouldering a greater amount of administrative and academic responsibilities.
Senior Professor UG Chandrika, one of his students, an awardee of prestigious vice-chancellors award for scientific publications, made a special speech on behalf of all the students and highlighted how Prof Jansz had transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of students in the country.
The event was attended by the Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Former Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, academic members of Department of Biochemistry and some other academics and colleagues of Prof Jansz.
