Research Awards – 2021/2022/2023

University of Sri Jayewardenepura

Staff members in the Permanent Service in University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) and Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) can now apply for Research Awards 2021, 2022 and 2023. The awards for each year will be given separately.

General Instructions

  • Please use a valid SJP/PIM email address during the initial step, as an OTP for user validation will be sent to this email.
  • Please be ready with screenshots of the Google Scholar Research Profile and the Scopus Profile (if available) for verification
  • Provide accurate details about your research and personal information.
  • Submit your research papers in the specified pdf format.
  • Meet all the eligibility criteria as specified in the guidelines.
    • The applicant should be a permanent staff member of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura or Post-Graduate Institute of Management, USJ
    • The applicant should process an updated Google Scholar Account with a verified institutional email address (SJP email address)
    • The publication should contain the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as the researcher’s institutional affiliation
    • If the applicant is the corresponding author, the publication should contain SJP email address

For those applying to Category 1 and 2 awards (Full papers published), ensure you have the following information ready for each publication you submit:

 You can apply the awards in 2 streams: Stream 1- Year-wise categories, Stream 2- Common categories

Stream 1: Year Wise Categories

  1. A full paper published in a refereed journal that publishes at least two issues per year
  2. A full paper published in an indexed journalranked in Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 SCImago Journal Quartile Ranking:

Recognized indexing services are as follows:
a. Science Citation Indexed Expanded (Web of Science)
b. Social Sciences Citation Index (Web of Science)
c. Arts and Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science)
d. Elsevier SCOPUS

Note:  One award will be given for the paper. However, a certificate will be given for each USJ/PIM eligible author.

If the corresponding author is an eligible staff member of the USJ/PIM, he/she should apply for the award on behalf of the other USJ/PIM members. If the corresponding author is not eligible to apply (in an instance where the corresponding author is not an eligible USJ/PIM member to apply for the University Research Awards) another eligible member is requested to apply with the concurrence of the other USJ/PIM authors listed. A draft letter is attached for your reference.

  1. Researchers who have published 5 or more full papers per year in recognized indexed journals (listed under category 2 above).

Must state University of Sri Jayewardenepura as the institutional affiliation.

  1. Researchers who successfully supervised and completed PhD/MPhil degrees in year 2021-2023 registered at the FGS
  • A PhD should be awarded within a period of 4 years and a MPhil within 3 years from the date of registration (A letter from the Assistant Registrar of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) confirming dates of registration and completion of postgraduate degree should be submitted).

Please note that the extensions granted due to COVID-related circumstances, as approved by FGS, will be considered.

  • At least two indexed journal publications (listed under category 02 above) should have been published from the PhD study
  • At least one indexed journal publication (listed under category 02 above) should have been published from the MPhil study
  • And/ or a Patent/ Industrial Design should be obtained arising from the PhD/MPhil study.
  • The award will be granted to the Principal Investigator and Co-investigators.
  1. Researchers who have obtained external research grants in the year 2021, 2022, 2023
  2. Researchers named among the top 2% scientists in the world – According to Elsevier/ Stanford List in year 2021, 2022, 2023
  3.   Researchers who obtained patents in 2021, 2022, and 2023
  4. Early Career Researcher Award
  • Scopus h-index should be 10 or more
  • Researcher should be in Senior Lecturer Grade II or below
  • Researcher has to be 40 or less than 40 years by 31stof December of the respective year

(3 Awards will be given for the Year 2021, 2022, 2023)

  • Applicant should be the corresponding author and University of Sri Jayewardenepura affiliation and the University’s email address should appear on the research papers that are cited in the application
  • Award will be given to the candidate who has the highest cumulative impact factor for the full papers published in Index Journals (SCI/SSCI/AHCI/SCOPUS)

Stream 2 – Common Categories

  1. 3. Researchers having a high Google Scholar h-index as at date of submission.

To be considered for the Category 3 awards,

(i)     For the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce – the researcher should have an h-index of 08

(ii)     For all other Faculties – the researcher should have an h-index of 15 or more

  1. Researchers who have obtained high number of Google Scholar Citations by the date of submission

(i) For the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce – the researcher should have Google Scholar citations over 1000

(ii) For all other Faculties – the researcher should have Google Scholar citations over 2000

  1. Researchers 40 or less than 40 years of age who have published at least one publication in category 2 over 3 consecutive years (2021, 2022, 2023)

Note: Researcher should have published a minimum of 1 publication per year over 3 consecutive years in Category 2 journals

  1. Vice Chancellor’s Award (Follow CVCD guidelines)

(Two awards will be awarded based on the science stream and the social sciences and humanities stream using the criteria of the respective CVCD guidelines)

Applicants must be in permanent service at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for the last five years.

  • No member may receive the award more than once every five years

Special Note: Achievements and contributions during the university career can be included in the application. The application should be made by using the format shown in Section 4 of the guidelines (https://cvcd.uovt.ac.lk/front-assets/guidelines.pdf), which may be downloaded from <CVCD website>. All claims should be supported by documentary evidence. If evidence is not provided, application will not be considered. Completed application form with self-assessment and supporting documents, should be submitted in 3 copies.

  • Please note that awards will be considered only for the applied categories.
  • The decision of the research council will be the final decision.
  • Deadline for submission for Research Awards 20th September 2024.

Specific instructions on submission of your application

  1. Need to submit all the details requested at “Details of the Applicant” section of the online submission tool. If you do not fill all the details requested your application will not be processed.
  2. At any time before final submission, you can save information you have entered and edit later.
  3. However, you should not submit the application unless you have done final editing as you will not be allowed to do any changes/ editing after submitting.
  4. Kindly submit a signed copy of the computer-generated PDF (Separate PDFs will be generated for the respective years) document to the Co-Chairperson, Research Council, on or before 23rd of September 2024 by 4.00 pm.
