Dr. Tony Sahama, of Science and Engineering Faculty, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia visited University of Sri Jayewardenepura on 16th December 2014. As the coordinator of Joint/split PhD program between QUT, Australia and Sri Lanka, Dr. Sahama had discussions with Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Dr. U. Anura Kumara, Dean Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce and also Dr. Malkanthi Samarasinghe, Head of the department, Department of Information Technology.
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has affiliated with University Grant Commission (UGC) Sri Lanka to support higher degree research (HRD) programs and research training of Sri Lankan academics. The program anticipated to create joint research efforts including a collaborative cohort model of doctorial supervision with local academic supervisors of Sri Lankan universities and academic supervisors of QUT. For the first round of joint PhD program, Mr. Mahesh Fernando, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Information Technology has been selected from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The meeting with vice chancellor extended to the discussion on improvement of research culture within the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and also discussed the prospects of starting collaboration for the development of proposed Engineering Faculty for the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
