Research is creating new knowledge. Taking initiative steps in promoting the research culture among academics, the Research Center for Business Economics and Development Studies of the Department of Business Economics successfully organized the 2nd Annual Conference on Business Economics (ACBE) 2021 on 30th June 2021 virtually via Zoom. The conference was themed as ‘Emerging Challenges for Developing Economies and Way Forward’.
The inauguration ceremony of the conference was graced with the presence of Professor Chair of Business Economics Sampath Amarathunge (Chairman, University Grants Commission), as the chief guest of the conference. Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage (Vice Chancellor), Professor P.D. Nimal (Dean of the Faculty), Heads of the Departments, academic staff of the Faculty, and undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department also participated in the inauguration ceremony and research sessions.
Dr. Ranjith Ihalanayake (Head of Postgraduate Courses & Senior Lecturer in Economics and Finance, Victoria University Business School, Australia) contributed as the keynote speaker. Seven research sessions were chaired by both international and local scholars and practitioners. Three foreign professors; Professor Dr. Yuri Sadoi, Meijo University, Japan, Associate Prof. Dr. Eglantina HYSA, Head of the Department of Economics, Epoka University, Albania and Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Torii, Faculty of Business Management, Meijo University, Japan. joined as session chairs.
Dean and the professor from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura also joined as session chairs. Further, session chairs representing the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Customs also participated in the conference.
Thirty-three selected abstracts were presented at the conference and were published in the Proceedings Book of ACBE 2021.
