‘Driving Productivity through Innovation: From Thought to Practice’
Innovation could be recognized as one of the key drivers for evolution and productivity in any business today, at the same time hailing at the top of many corporate mission agendas. Industries have identified that competence and world-class performance alone are not enough to survive in today’s perplexing, global market. As a result, consumers as well as companies alike focus more on innovation. Taking this into account it is crucial to explore the un-trodden paths of innovative potential of their employees, customers, and associates.
Taking in to consideration these aspects that should gain the attention of everyone; the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized the 11th International Conference on Business Management, under the theme of “’Driving Productivity through Innovation: From Thought to Practice’.
The International Conference on Business Management is the main annual academic event organized by the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura which is a platform for local and foreign academics to share the insights of their research findings. The ultimate purpose of the event is to enhance boundaries of existing knowledge in order to ensure the well-being of community through maximized the contribution of research to the society’s development. Further, the ICBM has focused on “Business Management” as the university has identified the role of business sector in ensuring the development of society.
The ICBM 2014 was organized for the eleventh consecutive year and was bound to be a fruitful event as its predecessors. The theme, ‘Driving Productivity through Innovation: From Thought to Practice’, was discussed under twelve main topics, namely Creative Business Management Practices, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility, Managing IT for Innovation and Value Creation, Managerial Economics and Business Development, Productivity through Marketing Innovations, Accounting and Finance for Sustainable Development, People Management Systems and Practices’ Managing Operations for Improving Productivity, Commercial Law for Innovation, Real Estate Management for Business Productivity and Innovation in Education Management.
All above topics included a number of high quality research articles completed by the university academia – both Local and Foreign, and also corporate personnel.
The 11th ICBM was graced by the Professor Mark Dodgson, Director, Technology and Management Center, University of Queensland. He was accompanied by the Chief Guest, Ms. Beth Watson, Microsoft Corporation, Asia Pacific Regional Education Director for the Public Sector and other academic delegates including Professor SampathAmaratunge, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Most importantly, as the pioneering management faculty in Sri Lanka, the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce University of Sri Jayewardenepura took the pride in organizing a much awaited Business Forum along with the 11th ICBM. It was a fruitful dialogue among selected corporate leaders in Sri Lanka where insights of them on productivity and innovation were shared. The forum was Moderated by Professor B.D.P.H. Dissabandara, the panel consists of a group of well recognized and respected individuals who shine in their own spheres of professionalism and academia, including Professor Mark Dodgson, Ms. Beth Watson, Commissioner, Sri Lanka Inventors Commission DeepalSooriyaarachchi, Maliban Biscuit Manufacturing Pvt Ltd CEO Ravi Jayawardena, MAS Apparel Board CEO Nathan Sivagananathan and Sampath Bank PLC Managing Director AravindaPerera.
The Business Forum wass organized with the intention to facilitate business performance by combining theoretical knowledge and practical implications of business management discipline, with a special focus on innovations and productivity. The Business Forum was unveiled on the 11th December 2014 at the Hotel Galadari, and the International Conference was held on the 12th December at the same venue.
