The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), University of Sri Jayewardenepura conducted research conference by the name ‘Vidyodaya Undergraduate Research Day (VURD: FHSS) 2017’ on 16th and 17th August 2017 at the Faculty premises aiming the final year students (special degree program) studying at their final year in various disciplines.
The core objective of conducting this research day is to provide a basic training to the students on the creation of knowledge and sharing the knowledge through conferencing. In addition, it is expected to strengthen the skills of students which are needed to transform them into quality ‘social scientists’ and ‘humanists’. Furthermore, it should be mentioned that the “Research Day” is orchestrated in accordance with the Corporate Plan and the Research Manual of Research Council of the University.
Inauguration of the research day was held in the evening of the first day with the participation of Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Dr. D. P. S. Chandrakumara, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences & Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Graudate Studies.
This year’s research day was chaired by Dr. Wasanatha Mendis, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Pali and Buddhict Studies. And secretariat of the research day was Dr. Neranji Wijewardene, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
