The Oath Taking Ceremony of B.Sc. Nursing Students

The Oath taking ceremony of B.Sc. Nursing students of the 12th Batch (2015/2016), was held at the Anatomy Auditorium, Faculty of Medical Sciences on 11th August 2018 from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The Guest of Honour was Mrs. M. B. C. Samanmali, the Director of Nursing in Medical Service

The Oath is taken by the nursing students in their 2nd year after successfully completing the theoretical and practical components of the subject Fundamentals of Nursing in their Part I examination. It is a solemn ceremony where the nursing undergraduates take their oath after receiving their cap and the lamp.

University of Sri Jayewardenepura being the first University to include Allied Health Sciences within the Departments of the Faculty of Medical Sciences is very proud of the quality of nurses it has produced throughout the years.

Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura stated that trained nurses are in demand today not just locally but internationally.

“In terms of expertise and knowledge our graduates and many qualified Sri Lankans are on par with many other nations, however, we are far behind because of our behavior. The lack of soft skills has affected our nation drastically and we are at a standstill. With this profession you have chosen, soft skills are quintessential, so make sure with the taking of this oath you will become, efficient, kind, professional and ethical nurses,” He said.

The ceremony came to a close with over 20 students taking their oaths, pledging to do their best in the noble career path they have chosen.
