The Department of Business Economics organized a forum under the theme, “Striving for Export Competitiveness: Phase II” on the 30th January 2019 from 5.30 pm onwards at Prof. K. A. Munasinghe Hall, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce.
The forum comprised of well-known panelists from all spheres namely, Dr. P. K. G. Harischandra, Additional Director of Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Mrs. Dayani Wegapitiya, Director-Policy and Strategic Planning Division of Export Development Board, Mrs. Chandi Jayamini, Director of Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade, Mr. Ramal Jayasinghe, Immediate Past President of National Chamber of Exporters and Mrs. Subhashini Abeysinghe, Research Director of Verité Research (Pvt.) Ltd. and the panel discussion was moderated by Prof. H. D. Karunarathne from the University of Colombo.
The discussion was developed in the areas of competitive edges for Sri Lankan exporters, the current trends and barriers in exporting, the foreign currency impacts of cross border trade, how to boost Sri Lankan trade and the role of Free Trade Agreements.
Phase II is a follow up of the Pre-Budget Forum held in September 2018 which was organized to increase awareness of the community on Sri Lanka’s export competitiveness with the participation of Hon. Eran Wickramarathne representing the government, Mr. D.R.S. Hapuarachchi from Department of Inland Revenue, Mr. Manilal Ranasinghe from BOI, Mr. Chrisso de Mel from Exporters Association of Sri Lanka, Mr. Mahendra Jayasekara from Lanka Walltile and Prof. H D Karunarathne being the moderator of the discussion.
