CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION (CEFENI) officially marked its grand opening on 1st of August 2019 at the location of No. 1/1/454, High-Level Road, Pannipitiya. Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Vice-Chancellor of the University opened the center ceremonially and started operations of the Center by handing over the agreement to a student’s start-up business. Vice-chancellor launched the official website of the Center with the URL www.cefeni.lk which will be the networking platform and information and resource hub for the entrepreneurs island-wide which will provide several benefits to entrepreneurs. The event was a very colorful one with the participation of the Deans of the Faculties, the Heads of the Departments, Board of Directors of the CEFENI, Academic members of the university, eminent entrepreneurs and young student entrepreneurs.
Chairman of the CEFENI, Mr. R.N. Weerasinghe welcomed the gathering and explained the main purposes, functions and future plans of the CEFENI while expressing gratitude to all who contributed in different ways to this establishment. Mr. Shyaman Udayanga, Head of the Department, Department of Entrepreneurship who developed the initial concept of CEFENI addressed the audience emphasizing the creativity and innovation to establish the entrepreneurial culture in the country.
The chief guest addressed the gathering highlighting the importance of such university linked incubators and interfaces to connect the University with the industry and the community. He explained the entrepreneurial role played by the university to make an impactful contribution to the economy and society.
The event was winded-up around 11.00 am marking a big milestone of the university journey with the expectation of the becoming the national body to serve all the interested parties and inculcate entrepreneurial characteristics among all with the blessing of every party.
