Financial Scholarship Awarding Programme

A Financial Scholarship Awarding Programme was launched on 27th June 2016 by the university with the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge.

This programme which aimed at uplifting and providing a hand of encouragement to students, focused on four areas of interest; granting financial scholarships for those affected by the Aranayake landslide, Ammunition depot explosion in Salawa, the recent devastating floods as well as a student aid programme facilitating 45 financial Scholarships funded by philanthropists.

The Aranayake Scholarship was awarded to two students stranded in camp sites with no proper housing. They were granted 1 lakh each with the aim of providing them temporary housing facilities until the government would provide them with lands to rebuild their homes. The university will further assist them in building the houses during such time. Furthermore, 20 students affected by both the Ammunition depot explosion in Salawa and the recent floods were given LKR 20,000 each to reinstate their ordinary life styles.
